When I was in high school, I wanted be the next David Letterman...just in the female form. I was going to have my own talk show to interview celebrity guests, tell my jokes and of course have a team of writers to make me amazing “Top 10 Lists.” While I’m waiting for Dave to retire here I am at Fishhook as the newest communications strategist. And since I don’t have my own late night talk show (yet) or my own team of writers to make up top ten lists, I’ll try my own hand at it.

The Top Ten Things You Need To Know About Shayla

10. I attended Ball State University. I’m serious when I say I wanted to be just like Dave, it’s his alma mater.

9. While at BSU, I was tossed up in the air on many occasions as a Ball State cheerleader. Go Cards [Spirit Fingers]

8. You might find me joining in on an adult gymnastics class on Thursday evenings. I can’t seem to kick the dream of becoming an Olympic gymnast. Thirty-something isn’t too old, right?

7. Not that you’d want to….but if you ever checked out my feet you’d notice that I have a set of toes on each foot that are webbed. And I know what you are thinking. No, it doesn’t make me a good swimmer.

6. I was once on the Best Buy Geek Squad.  If that makes me a nerd, then so be it.

5. “Hey, you guys!” I can quote most every word from my favorite movie The Goonies.

4. I really love music. Most every genre excluding country. My friends would say I mostly listen to “mom rock”, which I would describe as folksy singer/songwriter types.

3. In college, I minored in French. Bonjour! Je m’appelle, Shayla. That’s about all I got. But I’m pretty good at communicating in English. For the last six years, I was the communications and special events director at an education non-profit in Indianapolis.

2. In my spare time, you might find me reading a book, performing onstage in a musical or battling someone in a board game. Game night anyone?

1. And the number one thing about me: I love my family. I’ve been married to my husband, Jay, for nine years and we have three amazing kiddos. Brayden is our 8-year-old who is super smart and funny.  He wants to be the governor someday. He may have already shaken your hand and kissed your baby. Lydia is a sassy 4-year-old who is taking after mommy as a gymnast. And our 1-year-old, Parker, is starting to show us that he is a force to be reckoned with. Recently I dubbed him “Destructo” because he is fearless. Our kids keep us laughing all the time.

So there you have it. The top 10 things you need to know about Shayla. Maybe I shouldn’t quit my (new) day job.
