It's important to be aware of what you are sharing on social media. So before you post, here's a checklist to think through!

Whether you're posting from your personal account or from your church's account, it's always important to be aware of what you are sharing on social media.

So before you post, here's a checklist to think through:

Have you thought about your audience?
Always put yourself in the viewer’s perspective before you hit submit. Would this attract me? Who is my audience and would this post offer them any value?

Are you posting information or a message?
Posting information means you're simply sharing the facts about something. When you post a message, you're using information to create something meaningful and sharing that instead. Both are good, in certain circumstances. It all goes back to your audience and what you hope to portray.

Have you included a photo?
Visuals are incredibly attractive and tend to capture more attention than a post with no picture. Pictures tell stories and share emotions more than words alone can. Having impactful words combined with a picture explaining it allows for more engagement from your audience.

To go along with these questions, here are three other things to consider:

Tone
Find your upbeat self and make sure it comes through in your post.

Length
Especially on Facebook, try to compose your posts so they fit in the mobile version of the site. Don’t write so long that you have to “click to continue reading.” Statistics show that fewer people will read your post if they see that task at the bottom.

Timing
When do you post and when do you typically get the most engagement? Looking at business hours, school hours, etc. is important depending on who you are trying to connect with.
