Crisis communications is a critical topic for churches to explore, understand and plan for. In fact, we urge you to very intentionally plan for these events - and document your planning. Here's how ...

It's not something you'll ever volunteer or hope for! But it's inevitable! A crisis situation will face your church.

What is a crisis? As we described in another blogpost about crisis communications, a crisis is a challenging situation where God has many, many opportunities to move and act. For your church, it's a situation that is unexpected that often leads to a high impact with your staff team, Elders, congregation, community and other audiences as well. And in our complex world, almost anything is possible.

Crisis communications is a critical topic for churches to explore, understand and plan for.

In fact, we urge you to very intentionally plan for these events - and document your planning. (Don't just think about it or casually talk about it!)

Your best next step? Develop a crisis communications plan that can guide your church's thinking and actions in a crisis. A crisis communications plan will help your leaders determine ahead of time: what your top priorities should be, who should be involved, what your process for decision making and communications could be, how and when you will communicate, how you will follow up, and more.

What's the benefit? In the moment of a crisis situation (and these moments can come up when you least expect them), you'll be as prepared as you can be to pray, act, communicate, continue responding and carry on.
